Liposuction
in Daytona Beach, FL

Sergio M. Zamora MD, FACS offers liposuction, or lipo, for men and women who live in Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach and the surrounding communities in Florida.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction, also known as lipo, is a surgical removal of localized or regional excess fatty tissue. Liposuction is a popular method of achieving a better figure and more positive self-image. Liposuction removes fat from areas of your body that do not respond to a healthy lifestyle. Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that have not responded well to traditional weight loss methods such as diet and exercise.

Benefits of Liposuction

More than eating well and exercising regularly, liposuction candidates are those patients who need surgical assistance to combat those last zones of unwavering body fat. Liposuction is commonly used by Dr. Zamora to target fat deposits of your abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, chest, breasts, knees, chin, neck, and upper arms. Liposuction sculpts areas of your body that are resistant to exercise and diet, and it is ideal for the removal of larger fatty deposits and for collecting fat for transfer, leading to significantly improved outcomes. Liposuction can remove unwanted stubborn fat, changing your appearance and improving your self-confidence. Typically, the option of liposuction is most attractive for those individuals who have often fought weight issues throughout their entire life.

Who Is The Ideal Candidate For Liposuction?

Liposuction is a procedure that can help you sculpt your body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including your abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, back, chin, cheeks, and neck. Liposuction can be performed alone or in conjunction with other surgical procedures such as a cosmetic breast procedure or tummy tuck, also known as a LipoAbdominoplasty. Liposuction also serves as a terrific supplemental procedure to breast augmentation, breast reduction, and buttock contouring. To be a good candidate for liposuction, you must have realistic expectations about what the procedure can do for you. The best candidates for liposuction are normal-weight people with firm, elastic skin who have pockets of excess fat in certain areas.

IN OUR CLIENTS' OWN WORDS

What Do I Need To Do Before Liposuction?

Preparing for your liposuction procedure involves a pre-operative appointment to ensure your overall health is good. It may also be necessary to get a medical evaluation and lab testing. You may also have to adjust any current medications you take on a daily basis as advised by Dr. Zamora, in addition to ceasing smoking at least two weeks prior to the procedure. It may also be advised that you stop taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and certain herbal supplements at least two weeks prior to surgery. You will need to arrange for transportation to and from your procedure.

What Should I Expect On The Day Of My Liposuction?

After your comfort is assured, tumescent fluid is then injected into the treatment area, and a thin cannula is used to loosen excess fat, which is then removed using a surgical vacuum. The tumescent technique is a relatively new liposuction method that can reduce post-operative bruising, swelling and pain. The liquid causes the segments of fat to become swollen and firm, or “tumesced.” These expanded fat compartments allow the liposuction cannula to travel smoothly beneath your skin as your unwanted fat is removed.

How Long Does It Take To Perform Liposuction?

This procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis. Although this generally takes one to two hours to perform, the amount of time needed for the procedure will vary due to the amount of fat being removed and the size of the area being treated.

What To Expect After Liposuction?

You will be given extra fluids during the procedure, and you’ll experience swelling and some bruising, but this is only temporary. A compression garment is worn to control your swelling and to compress the skin to your new body contours. You will be advised by Dr. Zamora to walk as quickly as possible to help prevent blood clots from developing in your legs. Most of this swelling resolves within three weeks, although some swelling and skin laxity can persist for up to six months. Your recovery time varies for each patient, but most patients can return to work within a few days after their liposuction. Strenuous activity should be avoided for up to one month. Most patients are mobile immediately after liposuction, although an extra day or two of bed rest can be needed in those cases where large amounts of fat have been removed.

Will I Have Scars After Getting Liposuction?

During your consultation, Dr. Zamora will answer any questions that you may have, in addition to questions about scars that you may get after liposuction.

When Will I See The Results?

As your body heals from your liposuction procedure, your swelling will diminish, and your full results will become fully visible.

Liposuction FAQs

How much weight can you lose with liposuction?

This number will vary depending on your current size and treatment goals. It’s important to remember that liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, but a body sculpting treatment that has the added benefit of weight loss. In fact, many patients feel that their appearance reflects more significant weight loss even though they may only lose a few pounds on the scale.

Does liposuction permanently remove fat?

Yes, liposuction permanently removes fat cells from the body, which means that the results from liposuction are long-lasting and can even be permanent if you continue a healthy lifestyle. However, liposuction cannot prevent fat from reaccumulating in the treatment area and other areas of the body. Future weight gain can cause fat to return in areas where liposuction was previously performed.

How painful is a liposuction?

Most body contouring liposuction procedures are done under general anesthesia to eliminate any discomfort from the treatment. Once the procedure is complete, you may experience some discomfort and swelling as the body begins to heal. We will provide compression garments and prescriptions to help manage your discomfort and other symptoms. Patients are encouraged to take a few days off of work and other activities to rest, but find that it is easily managed after the first week.

Who is a good candidate for liposuction?

Good candidates for liposuction are close to their ideal weight, but may be struggling with stubborn fat in a few areas of the body. Additionally, liposuction candidates should be in good health and should have realistic expectations for their procedure.

Should I get liposuction or a tummy tuck?

When choosing between liposuction and a tummy tuck, you have to consider the differences between each treatment. Liposuction is a versatile treatment for removing fat from various areas of the body. A tummy tuck removes and tightens excess skin, which can create a firmer, contoured appearance in the abdominal region. Liposuction may be ideal for targeted areas, while a tummy tuck may be ideal for comprehensive abdominal contouring. These treatments can also be combined for maximum benefits.
