Dermabrasion
in Daytona Beach, FL
Dull skin is often a result of poor exfoliation, a problem that can easily be eliminated by undergoing a dermabrasion treatment performed by Sergio M. Zamora MD, FACS. Dermabrasion is an affordable, in-office treatment that’s available to patients in Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach, and the surrounding communities in Florida.
What is Dermabrasion?
An advanced method of exfoliation, dermabrasion involves “damaging” the skin so that one or more layers can then be removed. This is often with the use of an abrasive material or through dermaplaning, or gently scraping away the top layer of skin. Dermabrasion is a somewhat invasive procedure that must be performed by a licensed physician, and generally requires the use of local anesthesia.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a somewhat less invasive procedure than dermabrasion and requires only the top layer of skin be removed. A special wand containing an abrasive material, such as a diamond, is applied to the skin’s surface in order to gently exfoliate it. Since microdermabrasion is less invasive, it does not require any anesthesia and may, therefore, be performed by an aesthetician.
Benefits of Dermabrasion
In addition to reducing fine lines and wrinkles, dermabrasion resolves many skin issues that other procedures do little to address, including:
- Severe scars, including those caused by acne
- Rhinophyma, which is an enlarged nose that results from rosacea
- Removing pre-cancerous growths known as keratosis
Who is the Ideal Candidate for Dermabrasion?
If you have one or more serious skin conditions that have not responded well to other treatments, you could be a good candidate for dermabrasion.
What do I Need to do Before Dermabrasion?
Avoid heavy sun exposure for at least two weeks before your appointment. Do not schedule any other exfoliating treatments such as a chemical peel at or near the same time. Your skin must have enough time to heal and then regrow new layers between each procedure.

IN OUR CLIENTS' OWN WORDS
What Should I Expect on the Day of my Dermabrasion Procedure?
An aesthetician will cleanse your skin, and then Dr. Zamora will administer anesthesia. You will lie on one of our examining tables throughout, and should feel only light pressure being applied to your skin. Once the procedure is over, Dr. Zamora will check the results, apply a light dressing, and provide you with aftercare instructions.
How Long Does it Take to Perform Dermabrasion?
The entire procedure should require less than one hour, although it could take slightly longer if you need to resolve very serious skin care issues or are treating a larger area of your body.
What to Expect After Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion produces a wound, which must heal before you can notice your full results. It can take as long as 10 days before you start noticing any improvement. In the meantime, keep your skin well moisturized and avoid scratching or picking at any crust or scabs that develop. Use an over-the-counter medication if you notice extreme discomfort, swelling, or itchiness.
Will I Have Scars After Dermabrasion?
Some scarring is possible following dermabrasion. However, those who choose dermabrasion to eliminate scars typically find that the scars that remain following dermabrasion are much less noticeable than the ones they had before. Individuals with darker skin are more likely to experience scarring than patients with lighter skin. Scarring is unlikely after microdermabrasion or dermaplaning, regardless of your skin tone.
How Long Will the Results of Dermabrasion Last?
Our patients notice varying results, with many maintaining them for several months or even years.
How Much Does Dermabrasion Cost in Daytona Beach?
The cost of each dermabrasion procedure is different and based on a number of factors that are unique to you. To make dermabrasion as affordable as possible, we accept cash, personal checks, and major credit cards, in addition to a number of affordable financing options.
